Perth psychedelic, indie soul band Nectar have returned with their new single Waiting On The World (Won’t Work). The track draws from the chilled vibes of the band’s self-cited influences in Dope Lemon and Tame Impala, and fuses it with the harmonic influence of neo-soul artists such as Tom Misch. The song also features guest vocals from Ella Pilcher.
The four piece will be celebrating the release with a single launch at Mojos Bar in Fremantle on Saturday, April 2. They will be joined by special guests Jewel Owusu, Mia June and Anna Schneider with a DJ set from Supathick.
Waiting on the World (Won’t Work) is a statement towards the manifestation of excuses by placing blame on the world around you,” said the band. “If you want things to happen in your life you have to work for it and make the change, which we have been noticing a lot amongst our day to day lives especially as we are emerging as young artists. The song is particularly relevant at the moment as it is easy to find yourself in a stagnant state of life. It also reiterates that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that it’s okay to be at that stagnant point.”
Waiting On The World (Won’t Work), was recorded at Tone City Recording Studio by Sam Ford. The track follows up their 2021 singles Rat’s Race, Plateau and In The Clear which X-Press described as having “a sizzling hot drumbeat, foot stomping hip-swaying bass line, swirls upon swirls of guitars, all topped off by warm in sound, but chilled in delivery vocals.”
Nectar are the newest members to Perth’s Tone City Records, an ever growing stable of artists under the guidance of Sam Ford, including Supathick, DICE, Romeo Walker and more.
