WAM have announced that their WAM Song of the Year songwriting competition is now open for 2019. The competition is open to West Australian songwriters, bands, and producers from 12pm Monday, February 25 until 5pm Monday, March 25.
There is over $45,000 worth of prizes on offer across 17 different categories. This year you’ll find more cash prizes, studio time with WA’s finest, and a huge grand prize packed with everything you need to launch your next big release.
Aside from the generous prizes, WAM Song of the Year presents a unique opportunity for local artists to have their work heard by some of Australia’s leading music minds and gain direct feedback via the song evaluation option. Applicants that earn nominations will also benefit hugely from the added media exposure.
The competition recognises songwriting excellence across all genres and ages, with categories including Blues/Roots, Country, Electronic, Experimental, Folk, Jazz, Metal/Heavy, Punk/Hardcore, Pop, Rock, Urban/Hip Hop and World, plus extra categories for Schools 14 Years & Under, Schools 15-17, Outstanding Indigenous and Outstanding Regional.
This year WAM is also proud to introduce a new category to the competition, welcoming songs that touch on any aspect of Healthway’s valuable message of Act-Belong-Commit.
