While the launch this week of TIDAL – a previously lesser known Swedish music streaming service bought out then re-rolled by hip hop mogul, Jay Z – has left many bemused about what it actually offers, The Haxan Cloak, AKA musician/producer, Bobby Krlic, has a more specific concern about the kick-off.
Flanked by the uber-celeb-likes of Alicia Keyes, Beyoncé, Jack White, Kanye West, Rihanna, Madonna, Deadmaus, Nicki Minaj, Usher, Chris Martin, Calvin Harris, Daft Punk, Jason Aldean, J. Cole and Arcade Fire – all co-owners – for what in any other context would be a visit to Madam Tussauds, was actually a group of mega-rich performers claiming they are taking back music ‘for the artists’.
Before the launch a preview about TIDAL was uploaded to YouTube, using a piece of music that Krlic – who recently collaborated on Björk’s Vulnicura album – thought was a little too similar to his own and made it known on Twitter.

Just to clarify, I’m not saying Tidal used my music; I’m saying they used an imitation of it. This happens to artists way too often.

The posts appear to have since been removed. As more becomes known about it, TIDAL will surely continue to divide opinions, but one thing’s for sure, they can’t pitch it to the public by crying poor.
