Premiere: WA singer-songwriter Simone Keane shares new video ‘Kicking up the Leaves’

Western Australian singer-songwriter Simone Keane has released the video for her latest single, Kicking Up The Leaves.

Kicking Up The Leaves is the first single from Keane’s upcoming full-length album Graced By Leaves, due for release on Sunday, October 29.

Hailing from WA’s deep south coast, Simone Keane is a two-time WAM Song Of The Year award winner who writes and sings delicate folk inspired by our south west’s majestic flora and fauna.

“Often, deep-rooted trauma is impossible to articulate. It may be buried in the subconscious or it may be oppressed and silenced,” Keane said. “Kicking up the Leaves is a rhythmic release, where the birds have got your back and the trees shake off leaves with the poetry of escape and transformation embedded into them.”

Kicking Up The Leaves was produced by Lee Buddle of Crank Recording (Justin Bieber, Kelly Clarkson, Gurrumul Yunupingu) and features Bronton Ainsworth on drums, Ben Franz (The Waifs) on electric bass, Marie Limondin on violin, Lee Buddle on flute and Phillip Waldron on double bass. “I asked Phil if he could create a sound not unlike a big old grandfather grizzly bear having a friendly chat with a girl in the forest,” said Keane. “He did that beautifully.”

The animated video clip was filmed in front of a green screen in the south west by Warren Lilford and created in the UK by artist and musician, Marry Waterson (Waterson-Knight-Carthy musical dynasty).
