Pat Chow
No Strings
Independent
Perth indie rock outfit Pat Chow’s new single No Strings is just that, a neat tune with no strings attached. Just over two years since debut LP Are You Ok?, It’s a taster to forthcoming LP#2 Overwhelming Care and a sample of a fresh new sound from the band.
A song about one-night stands, like previous single Green Eyes it takes on a mellower harmonic sound to the Chow’s earlier heavier fuzzed up sound. Fear not, they haven’t lost their punchy sound, that punch is just subtler and more refined.
The duel male-female vocals coming thanks to the the addition of new member Ashby Ranson on vocals and guitar adds a cool vocal dynamic. Those vocals top some crispy rhythmic dual guitar riffs and nicely blended drumming, the end resulting making for a catchy, easy listen.
Early fans in search of that grungy sound may not dig No Stings so much but no complaints here, love the old but digging the new too. If this is the path leading to Overwhelming Care, I’m looking forward to getting it in my ears.
Check out the single launch at Jack Rabbit Slim’s on Friday, February 16 or catch them along with Grenadiers at Mojo’s and in Bunbury in March.
