Mariae Cassandra returns with new single Splinters
Perth indie-pop artist Mariae Cassandra has just released her first single of 2026, Splinters.
A reflection of her growth over the past few years, the release is accompanied by an official music video directed by Perth creative Stephanie Senior.
“By the time I was 16, I was carrying unresolved wounds that made it difficult to move forward. After writing the first demo, I disliked it because it felt too real. ” said Mariae about the new single. “Two years later, I returned to it with a different perspective. I rewrote parts of the song to reflect who I had become during that time, shaping it into what it is now.”
The new single comes after a big couple of years for the fast-rising local artist. Cassandra’s debut single, Million Billion Trillion, took out triple j Unearthed High in 2024 when she was just 16, and by 2025 she was warming up main stages at Laneway Festival, playing shows alongside Kita Alexander, Spacey Jane, WAFIA and The Buoys, and showcasing at BIGSOUND and SXSW Sydney.
This year she’s expanded even further, selling out multiple dates across Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide on her debut national headline tour in January, and weeks later, performing her first international headline show in London, before heading to SXSW Austin in March.
