Jackson Pollock’s Blue poles showcased for the first time in WA

Jackson Pollock’s famous abstract artwork Blue poles will be displayed at the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) for the first time next year.

On loan from the National Gallery of Australia, the painting has never before been showcased in the state of WA. Its display in Perth will provide Western Australians a rare opportunity to experience one of modern art’s most identifiable artists and most influential works.

Stretching close to five metres in width, Pollock’s 1952 painting is a classic example of his revolutionary poured-paint technique. As one of the last major paintings Pollock created, it is the most viewed artwork in the National Gallery’s history.

On display from Friday, April 30, to Sunday, September 5, 2027, the free exhibition will coincide with an array of talks, community activities and public events designed to celebrate its debut visit to WA and to deepen visitors’ understanding of Pollock’s legacy.
