GRIZZLY BEAR Lords of the rings

Lately Grizzly Bear have been busy; since April short videos have been popping up on their website with increasing regularity. Now we know why.

Three Rings marks Grizzly Bear’s first new song since 2012 album Shields, which is a long stretch even by slow moving grizzly standards. Hinting at technology with a big distorted bassline, the song swells up over the course of five minutes into a satisfying crescendo. No word on an album just yet.

Here’s what the band had to say:

“Hey all. Thanks to everyone for sticking with us as we navigate the wide world of modern social media album rollouts. The promotional journey is just beginning! Weeeee! Here’s a track from our new record. We feel like it’s a good introduction to the album, a good starting point, and we are proud of it. As you may know we’ve been working on this thing for a long time, after a long time away, and we are finally at the finish line. We’ve had a lot of fun making this one and we are excited to get back out into the world again and play some shows and all the rest! More info to come. Don’t know exactly in what order, but it is sure to be a slow and painful drip of minor details, spanning months, culminating in the release of a new record of which you’ve probably already heard half the songs, by which point you may or may not have lost interest and moved on and forgotten what we were doing in the first place. We appreciate your patience and support! We love y’all and thank you again. It truly means the world to us. WELP! <3 Sincerely, Grizzly Bear Ps. The idea of the snippets on our new instagram @grizzlybear was something we thought people would enjoy. Our songs are usually so layered and dense and it seemed like a fun way to peel back the onion layers of the new album. So to clarify, it wasn’t meant to torture you but more meant to show you small pieces of all the songs from the forthcoming album! Big thanks to the immensely talented Michael Brown @michaelbrowndesign for the analog video synth visuals… trip out!”

Three Rings is out now.
