Craig Bloxom brings the music of vSPY vSPY back to WA with new band RSPYS
Craig Bloxom, the bass player, singer and songwriter from the legendary vSPY vSPY, returns to WA next month with his new band RSPYS.
Their trip to the west includes dates at Amplifier Bar on Friday, May 30; The River, Margaret River, on Saturday, May 31; and Indian Ocean Hotel on Sunday, June 1.
RSPYS are set to play all the classic Spys’ songs, including Don’t Tear it Down, Credit Cards, Sallie-Anne, Clarity of Mind, All Over The World and more.
Back in the 1980s, vSPY vSPY conducted massive tours of WA up and down the coast from Karratha to Kalgoorlie and Perth to Albany.
After Bloxom spent 20 years away from the music industry, last year saw the release of RSPYS’ album, Unity Gain, which went Top 10 on the Australian ARIA charts. All the big songs of vSPY vSPY are featured on the new album, which went to #7 on the charts.
Both Craig Bloxom and bandmate Chrissy Lowe (drums) are chefs who started work on a reggae/rock rebuild of vSPY vSPY, with their music proving popular among both Australian and Brazilian fans. When guitarist Te Koi Tarawa—a Maori from New Zealand—joined RSPYS, he firmly locked the three-piece into place, and the band took shape.
The WA visit follows on from a tour of Brazil with the Hoodoo Gurus and GANGgajang, which reconnected Brazilian fans to the music of vSPY vSPY in a reggae/rock format.
The run of WA gigs is also something of a homecoming for Craig Bloxom, who lived and went to school for five years in Perth.
RSPYS play Amplifier Bar on Friday, May 30, The River on Saturday, May 31, and Indian Ocean Hotel on Sunday, June 1, 2025. Tickets are on sale now from oztix.com.au
