WAM’s 2025 Song of the Year competition returns

WAM have announced that entries for their 2025 Song of the Year competition, presented by Act Belong Commit, are now open.

Entries are open to WA songwriters and artists of all ages and levels, who have written a song between March 2024 and February 2025. Entrants in the competition must have been residing in WA for the majority of the last 12 months.

This year artists can enter 17 categories, with winners set to receive recording time, industry and cash prizes.

“WAM’s Song of the Year Awards gives an incredible and rare platform to showcase the incredible local music produced in our state.” said WAM Chief Executive Officer Owen Whittle.

WAM have also announced a unique, free additional category in this year’s competition for entrants under 25. WAM’s ‘A Song for Sophie’ award honours local music artist Sophie Smith, with the category possible due to the Sophie Smith Fund and the Fremantle Foundation.

Young songwriters can optionally enter to be judged by a specialist panel, with the winner receiving a cash prize of $2,500 and an exclusive mentoring program with a renowned local artist Jordi Davieson from San Cisco.

Last year’s WAM Song of the Year winner was Rein Mali, with his hit Game of Love featuring CHISEKO. Previous winners of the award include Dulcie, Dr Tasty and Siobhan Cotchin.

Applications for WAM’s 2025 Song of the Year competition are now open. Entries close on Tuesday, March 4, at 9am. Head to songoftheyear.com.au to enter today.
