Tough, brassy and wounded, Canadian soulstress Ann Vriend has made her name for soul music with a bite. Drawing on her experiences living in a rough part of Edmonton – where one’s as likely to find a set of used syringes in the backyard as a squirrel – her new album, For The People In The Mean Time is a resolute tour de force of perseverance.
