The Chats return Half Cut with new album and tour

Australian punk rock band The Chats are back with a new album, Half Cut, and a 17-date tour.

The three-piece will bring the tour to WA for shows at Indian Ocean Hotel on Friday, December 11, and Rosemount Hotel on Saturday, December 12, and on Sunday, December 13.

The tour is in celebration of The Chats’ upcoming third album, Half Cut, to be released Friday, March 5, 2027 via Virgin Records. Recorded at Los Angeles’ Maple Sound Studio with Frenzal Rhomb’s Jay Whalley, it’s an exploration of hangovers, confrontation, reconciliation and rehabilitation.

“Half Cut is a fun rock and roll record, but it’s maybe a little more open than stuff we’ve written in the past,” said vocalist Eamon Sandwith. “I definitely hesitate to use the word ‘mature,’ but it’s a bit of a progression, I’d say.”

The album opener, Off It, also dropped today, along with a new video clip. Both give fans a glimpse of the upcoming record, which, while more expansive in sound, still retains the band’s signature Australian lyricism, as evidenced by track titles such as Half Arsed, Hanging Shit and Brown Bottle Flu.

Formed in 2016, the Queensland band are best known for their 2017 hit Smoko and have won an ARIA award for their 2022 album Get F*cked. They have also supported major acts such as Foo Fighters and have performed at festivals like Coachella.

The Chats bring their Half Cut Australian Tour to Indian Ocean Hotel on Friday, December 11, and Rosemount Hotel on Saturday, December 12, and Sunday, December 13, 2026. Tickets are on sale now from thechats.com
