TASH SULTANA @ Mojo’s Bar

tashsultana-02Unsurprisingly Tash Sultana sold out two back to back nights at the iconic Mojo’s Bar in North Fremantle. The 21 year old singer songwriter, guitar strumming, beat boxing, loop-oligist, who cut her teeth busking on the streets of Melbourne has been blowing up the airwaves and getting world wide attention during 2016.

With a seemingly unstoppable momentum Tash Sultana has created quite a buzz, selling out her entire world tour and being added to many festival line-ups. With this knowledge in hand, the crowd’s anticipation energised the intimate venue. Tash was supported by another young emerging Victorian artist Josh Cashman who took to the stage to kick the night off with his textured, looping, indie-folk which complimented the headline act perfectly.

Josh Cashman’s voice was something ethereal and the crowd was pleasantly surprised with his energetic and passionate performance. When he covered Billie Jean by the late great king of pop Michael Jackson no one questioned it. Hitting notes that seemed impossible and a stage presence that seemed beyond his years the young curly haired lad from Gippsland opened the evening with gusto and set the tone for things to come.

With the crowd at capacity and bursting at the seems, Tash Sultana took to the stage in a haze of smoke and blue lighting. Looking like some other worldly creature as she launched into her set of unique looping, indie-folk that has already made her a star. Proving that she can deliver the goods live, the self taught musician and online sensation delivered an electric performance that tugged at the heart strings of all present. Swaying to the layered intensity of her music the crowd listened intently to the stories being told through her lyrics as she danced about the stage using a multitude of instruments, taps, beats, stomps and vocal sounds to weave her tapestry of music.
