Stories of Country to come alive at Point Walter in new Noongar-led event Nitja

On Saturday, 14 February, the banks of the Derbarl Yerrigan at Dyoondalup/Point Walter will come alive for Nitja, a free, one-night-only cultural event led by First Nations artists and storytellers.

Translating to “here” in Noongar, Nitja invites the community to gather in celebration and reflection at a place of deep cultural significance.

Running from late afternoon into sunset, the event blends live music, dance, storytelling, animation and large-scale projection to reveal the enduring stories of Country and community embedded in Dyoondalup.

The event is led by acclaimed Noongar artist Ian Moopa Wilkes, alongside Yamatji artist Chloe Ogilvie, with a creative team that includes Rickeeta Walley and Alton Walley. Musical direction comes from celebrated composer and Artistic Director Iain Grandage, working alongside rising musician Mongeeya and Wonguktha, Yamatji and Murri singer-guitarist Zac James.

Nitja is about connection, about coming together in a beautiful spot by the Derbal Yerrigan to share stories and songs. It’s about really noticing where we are and celebrating life from here, songs from here, and stories from here that are still and always have been here. This is a chance to see this place in a new light and experience the energy that happens when community, art and Country meet,” said Ian Wilkes.

Nitja takes place at Point Walter on Saturday, February 14, 2026. For more information, head to melvillecity.com.au
