Now You See Me Live at Crown Theatre delivered a fast-paced evening of impressive magic, packed with clever illusions that kept the audience guessing. From slick card tricks to vanishing boxes and large-scale stage effects, the illusions were delivered with precision and engaging energy.
Perth audiences were in for a treat with four standout magicians. Italian escapologist Andrew Basso was thrilling, with daring stunts including the infamous water torture cell, while UK magician Matthew Pomeroy charmed the crowd with his witty audience interaction. Spanish prodigy Pablo Canovas and rising Canadian star Gabriella Lester impressed with flawless sleight-of-hand, making objects (and themselves!) vanish and reappear with style. The performers’ expertise was matched by their confident, entertaining delivery.
One of the highlights was the amusing audience interactions, with comedian-style banter that added warmth and humour throughout the night. A mass audience card trick was particularly fun, making the crowd feel genuinely involved rather than just watching from afar.
However, despite referring to themselves as the “Four Horsemen”, the connection to the Now You See Me movie franchise felt thin and false. The link to its namesake was tenuous at best. If the show were to carry the movie title, it would benefit from stronger storytelling ties—perhaps by recreating scenes from the film, mirroring specific illusions, or weaving the tricks together with a plot inspired by the movies. As it stands, the performance felt more like a standalone magic show riding on the coattails of a well-known brand.
That said, if you’re simply after an entertaining night of magic and laughs, it delivers. The tricks were impressive—the movie link, not so much.
