Local Perth artist Nici Ward has unveiled her debut solo single, Blue.

As someone who grew up in the music scene with musicians for parents, it’s no surprise that music has always held a special place in Nici Ward’s life.

After years of playing in a band in Melbourne, Ward stepped back from music to raise her kids, but in recent years she returned to the studio and the stage as the singer of Perth ’90s indie-rock band Lonesome Dove.

This new release follows in the footsteps of similar influences, but this time with an alt-pop twist.

Showcasing an experimental approach to drums, brass and horns, Blue embraces a lo-fi feel to convey the sense of being emotionally and socially depleted, serving as an outlet for these feelings—a kind of scrapbook of Ward’s life and thoughts.

Blue is vulnerable, personal and playful, which perfectly captures Ward’s musical vibe.
