Queency and WAYJO join forces for big band celebration of Queer Anthems

WAYJO’s 18-piece Resonance Jazz Orchestra will reimagine iconic queer anthems as bold big band arrangements, joined by charismatic singer/songwriter Queency for one night only when Queer Anthems takes over The Rechabite on Sunday, November 8.

Featuring music by Gloria Gaynor, Diana Ross, Madonna, ABBA, Kylie, The Village People, Sister Sledge and Chappell Roan, the show promises a euphoric celebration of queer culture, identity and community.

Directed by WAYJO Artistic Director Gemma Farrell, the performance draws on jazz’s long-standing connection to freedom and self-expression.

“At its core, jazz has always been a music of liberation, authentic expression, and community,” Farrell said.

“With Queer Anthems, we are taking that foundational spirit and applying it to the modern era to send a clear, undeniable message to the LGBTQIA+ community: you belong here. We want to create a space where audiences can see themselves celebrated through the immense, joyous power of live music.

“To bring this vision to life, we needed a vocalist with extraordinary charisma, vocal power, and theatricality, and Queency is exactly that. Queency is an incredible force in the local music scene, and featuring him at the front of the Resonance Jazz Orchestra is a match made in heaven. He has the depth and dynamic range to take on these monumental songs.”

Originally from Réunion Island, Perth-based powerhouse Queency has been lighting up stages across Australia with a performance style that blends vocal prowess and undeniable stage presence. A standout on Season 13 of The Voice Australia, he earned a coveted spot on Adam Lambert’s team with his velvet vocals and eye-catching swagger.

Inspired by icons such as Whitney Houston and Prince, Queency brings charisma, slick dance moves and razor-sharp wit to his performances, making him the perfect fit for a show celebrating the joy of queer anthems and the power of music to bring people together.

WAYJO’s 18-piece Resonance Jazz Orchestra and Queency perform Queer Anthems at The Rechabite on Sunday, November 8, 2026. Tickets are on sale now from moshtix.com.au
