MASTODON Announce New Album ‘Emperor Of Sand’

Mastodon

Heavy metal icons, and all-round awesome band, Mastodon are proud to announce the release of their eighth studio album, Emperor Of Sand, the follow-up from their 2014 universally praised album Once More ‘Round the Sun.

The album is set for release March 31 via Reprise Records with pre-orders now available, which includes the deluxe edition complete with 180-gram vinyl along with a Colour-In-Your-Own vinyl jacket with exclusive box of Mastodon coloured pencils.

The theme of Emperor Of Sand sees the band returning to a deeply imaginative and complex conceptual story line which focuses on the idea and nature of time. Drummer/Vocalist Brann Dailor compared the album to the grim reaper, saying, “Sand represents time. If you or anyone you know has ever received a terminal diagnosis, the first thought is about time. Invariably, you ask, ‘How much time is left?’”

Bassist/Vocalist Troy Sanders adds that the album is a direct response to the past couple of years and drawing inspiration from personal experiences. It was recorded at The Quarry Recording Studio, Kennesaw with producer Brendan O’Brien, who worked with the band on 2009 album Crack the Skye.

Mastodon throughout their career have continued to push themselves towards greater creative heights which has earned them remarkable success, respect and a legion of fans who have come to expect the unexpected from the band.
