HANDBRAKE Professor chaos

Internationally renowned artist Handbrake will unveil his second solo exhibition Chaos Rising at The Old Pickle Factory in late May.

In addition to 30 original Handbrake artworks on display and available for purchase, Chaos Rising will also include a custom Rogue Motorcycles display, an award-winning hand-painted Café Racer motorbike and Handbrake’s signature hand-painted denim jacket line, skateboard decks, merchandise and even a hand-painted Robinson R66 turbo charged helicopter.

“I’ve never seen a hand-painted helicopter before, so I thought, why not do it myself?” says Hans Bruechle, the artist behind Handbrake. “Chaos Rising is all about taking objects to the next level. I want people to see my work and say ‘Oh, that’s awesome!’”

“I’ve always been interested in usable art; artwork on objects that people wear, ride or use. I still love traditional gallery canvases, but I think useable art is more accessible every day and for everybody. Plus, it brightens up your life. The art world tends to take itself a bit too seriously and that makes it exclusive rather than inclusive. Art should be for everyone.”

The opening night of Saturday, May 29 will be an 18+ event featuring free live tattooing of Handbrake designs, tunes from DJ Mike de Wet and DJ Boston Switch, custom-created Handbrake cocktails by West Winds Gin, and free catering from RoyAl’s Chicken and Burgers. Sunday’s Open Day will be an all-ages, family-friendly affair.

Previously Hans Bruechle has created works for global brands such as McDonalds, Red Bull, Footlocker, Mercedes Benz and The Stone Temple Pilots, and recently painted live on the brand-new Porsche Taycan electric sports car at their VIP unveiling and launch event.

Those hoping to add to their collection are encouraged to get down early, as Handbrake’s first exhibition, Chaos Controlled, was a runaway hit with artworks almost selling out before it even opened to the public.

Handbrake’s Chaos Rising exhibition goes down at The Old Pickle Factory at 4 Golding Street, West Perth on Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30. For more info head to www.handbrakedesign.com.au.
