Fremantle’s 10 Nights in Port program revealed

Fremantle winter arts festival, 10 Nights in Port, is set to return in 2024, bringing a program of over 15 installations, exhibitions, and performances to the port city from Thursday, August 15, to Sunday, August 25.

Designed to showcase WA artists, the festival brings together an array of subcultures and communities, offering a blend of paid and free events across more than 10 community spaces throughout Fremantle.

First Nations ceramicist Alfred Lowe’s Cracked is making its debut this year as a free exhibition, exploring themes of community and hope through an illuminated trail of fire sculptures. Also, festival favourite Neighbourhood Saunas will return to Fremantle’s South Beach with the launch of Sweat, Soak, Release, featuring a program of sacred ceremonial sauna rituals with an emphasis on international cultures.

Other highlights of the festival will include Six Seasons Gathering, an exhibition by Nyoongar and Wadjala artists reflecting the Nyoongar six seasons through shared seasonal resources; while Joy Persists, a multifaceted program of artworks, explores the theme of joy through visual arts, film, music, workshops and discussions. Potluck: Feast of Gentle Bravery invites the community to share food, stories, and experiences with one another; while CaberGAY presents a mix of cabaret, theatre, circus, comedy and kink, hosted by veteran Perth drag artist Cougar Morrison.

Sarah Wilkinson, Manager of Arts, says this year’s program aims to depict the diverse cultures and celebrate the people that form Fremantle’s vibrant community.

“Community connection is at the heart of this festival. The program wants to engage festivalgoers through immersive art experiences that enlighten and enrich perspectives through the melting pot of cultures that exist within our local community.”

She encourages the people of Perth to brave the winter cold and enjoy everything the program has to offer, stating, “all you need is a jacket and an adventurous spirit.”

10 Nights in Port takes place across Fremantle from Thursday, August 15, to Sunday, August 25, 2024. For more info and to buy tickets, head to 10nightsinport.com.au
