EVENT GUIDE TOP 5 Fringe World, Distant Murmurs and more…

January in Perth means only one thing: the return of FRINGE WORLD for another year. The world’s third largest fringe festival kicks off this weekend, but that’s hardly all. With our usual bevy of local launches, another top-notch RTR event and even a tribute to a famed surrealist… it’s all happening this week. Check out our Event Guide for more, and while you’re at it feel free to send any suggestions through to guide@xpressmag.com.au.

1. Fringe World Festival

Spanning over six weeks with hundreds of venues and shows alike, FRINGE WORLD Festival takes over our city once again starting from tomorrow (Friday). The extent of it would be impossible to cover here, so visit fringeworld.com.au for all the details.

2. Distant Murmurs

The Rosemount Hotel and Four5Nine is hosting RTRFM’s fifth incarnation of their iconic local festival on Saturday night, featuring the likes of Boat Show, Ryan Beno, The Limbs and even a visit from Luluc. Get down there from 6.30pm to enjoy our city’s best and support RTRFM in the process.

3. Dali Land

A particular highlight of Fringe this year comes in the form of a four-part daily festival called Dali Land, held at Metro City from Friday night through to February 17. The festivities kick off at the Surrealist Ball black tie event tomorrow night (Friday) and things are bound to only get wilder and wackier from there.

4. Grease – The Arena Experience

Everyone’s guilty pleasure (or perhaps not guilty, we’re not judging) is hitting the RAC Arena stages this Saturday night, performed by Harvest Rain Theatre Company. It’s rare that Perth gets the opportunity to see a musical on such a mega scale, so try not to let this one get away!

In launches this week we have the Act Normal zine launch at The Bird featuring local musical supports, the Bassendean Hotel hosting The Midnight Revolver‘s EP launch, the Paige McNaught Experience launching their new vinyl at Mojos Bar and the release of  Dolce Blue‘s album launch at Badlands (pictured).
