With album number three promised for April 2020, DMA’s have released a snippet of what’s to come with new single Silver. The Sydney three-piece have kept true to their Britpop sound and slow melodic builds.
Frontman Tommy O’Dell’s vocals wrap around the guitar-heavy instrumental building to the sort of eruption DMA’s are so well known for. Silver showcases O’Dell’s obviously nurtured and matured voice. Key riffs by guitarists Matt Mason and Johnny Took carry the piece to a place where listeners can enjoy the somewhat silky anthem.
A standout moment showcasing the band’s growth comes with the lyrics “How do I redefine/ All my love for you/ I guess I look to the sun with you.” This clearly developed hook comes midway and leaves us wanting more from this groovy yet vulnerable side of the trio.
While the track is a nice addition to their discography, it feels frustratingly similar to previous releases dripping with all the structural remnants of their last album, For Now. But Silver also sees the DMA’s finding their definitive sound after being referred to in terms of their influences for so long.
