Celebrate 85 years of the Dark Knight with Batman in Concert
The 2024 Batman in Concert show is making its way down under this November, hitting Perth’s Riverside Theatre on Friday, November 29, and Saturday, November 30.
Conducted by the renowned Australian conductor Sarah-Grace Williams, the concert will feature orchestras that are uniquely associated with each city, with the Perth Symphony Orchestra leading the performance during the Perth leg of the tour.
The concert tour not only celebrates 85 years of the beloved character but also marks 35 years since the release of Tim Burton’s iconic film Batman, featuring Michael Keaton in the title role and Jack Nicholson as the Joker. Audiences can enjoy the film projected on a larger-than-life screen while the orchestra brings Danny Elfman’s Grammy-nominated film score to life. As part of the global DC in Concert series, the evening promises an immersive experience, complete with stage lighting, merchandise sales and the opportunity for fans to dress up as their favorite DC superheroes or supervillains.
Burton’s Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992) were major commercial successes, celebrated for revolutionalising the Batman film franchise and moving away from the campy 1960s portrayal featuring Adam West and Burt Ward. Both films received acclaim for composer Danny Elfman’s soundtracks, with the 1989 score earning a Grammy nomination in 1990, and his piece The Batman Theme winning the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition.
