Nestled atop Print Hall in none-more-hot-right-now Brookman Place, Bob’s Bar is a destination watering hole this summer. We had a quick back and forth with Print Hall Operations Manager, Matt Marinich.
What’s the Print hall story? Give us a quick potted history.
Print Hall has been open for two years now. The aim was to stay true to the heritage of WA and the building itself. Even the name, Print Hall, pays homage to the days the West Australian was printed here [started in 1933]. We have won many awards for wine, service, culture etc since operations commenced.
Tell us about Bob’s Bar.
Bob’s Bar is named after WA’s third longest serving prime minister, Bob Hawke. The atmosphere on the roof is very relaxed and casual. We focus on alternative wine, Handcrafted cocktails, Mexican street food and of course, delicious craft beer! We are creating a solid beer culture at Bob’s through our 10 taps we are selling some very limited release small batch brews, some of which have never been poured in WA before.
You must be pretty chuffed with your recent awards (Print Hall won Best Wine List and Restaurant Of the Year at the 2014 AHA Awards).
Awards are always great! To get official commendation from the community is fantastic.
What is it that sets your wine list apart from the pack?
Dynamic, short list that focuses on South American and Mediterranean alternative food wines to pair with the Mexican street food menu.
What kind of crowd do you cater to?
We aim to please everyone from the after work corporate crowd that can see Bob’s from the office window during the day, then need to come in for a cleansing pint at 5pm. Also, those who enjoy to experience relaxed service, whilst sipping cocktails in the sunshine.
What is the quintessential element that separates Bob’s Bar from other venues? No roof! From personal experience, time matters not, you can easily lose yourself in the atmosphere on Friday and Saturday nights. So much fun!
