BIKINI KILL Rebel grrrls

Following their reunion in 2019, Riot grrrl originals Bikini Kill have announced they are returning to Australia in 2023 for their first tour in 25 years.

The band – consisting of original members Kathleen Hanna, Tobi Vail and Kathy Wilcox along with The Julie Ruin’s Sara Landeau – will play four headline shows across the country, including a performance at The Rechabite for Perth Festival on Wednesday, March 1.

Bikini Kill were founded in Olympia, Washington in 1990, and released two studio albums and several EPs. The group pioneered the riot grrrl genre alongside acts like Bratmobile, Heavens to Betsy, Excuse 17 and Huggy Bear.

Bikini Kill called it quits in 1997, following the release of their final album, Reject All American, and a tour of Australia. Kathleen Hanna went on to front electro-punk act Le Tigre and later founded The Julie Ruin with Wilcox.

Bikini Kill play The Rechabite for Perth Festival on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. For more info and to buy tickets, head to www.perthfestival.com.au
