Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet gets orchestrated for 30th year celebration

Baz Luhrmann’s iconic Romeo + Juliet will return to screens accompanied by a live orchestra next year.

Originally released in 1996, Luhrmann’s transformation of the classic Shakespearean tale was a worldwide smash, featuring a star-studded cast and a distinctive ’90s soundtrack.

Now, to celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary, Disney Concerts and Baz Luhrmann will bring Romeo + Juliet Film in Concert to screens across Australia. The performance premieres worldwide in Sydney this month and comes to Perth’s Riverside Theatre on Tuesday, May 25, before heading to Brisbane and Melbourne and returning to Sydney.

The audience can expect classic songs, including Lovefool by The Cardigans, Talk Show Host by Radiohead, #1 Crush by Garbage, Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good) by Quindon Tarver, Young Hearts Run Free by Kym Mazelle, and You and Me Song by The Wannadies.

The innovative musical experience blends rock and orchestral musicians alongside vocalists, electronic elements, and a DJ, capturing Luhrmann’s signature style of merging classic storytelling with contemporary sound.
