Award-winning rapper BARKAA brings new EP BIG TIDDA to the west
Malyangapa and Barkindji rapper BARKAA has announced a national tour, set to hit The Rechabite on Saturday, September 21. The tour will showcase her highly anticipated new EP, BIG TIDDA, which drops on Friday, August 30.
BIG TIDDA marks a significant milestone in BARKAA’s artistic journey, celebrating joy and the transformative path to achieving it. Across seven tracks, the EP delves into her personal growth and the beauty found in navigating life’s uncertainties, drawing inspiration from her experiences as a young Blak mother and her upbringing in Eora/Sydney.
“Big Tidda is a celebration of blak joy, the importance of blak love, and just feeling yourself,” BARKAA said. “I showcased my culture with Blak Matriarchy, but with Big Tidda, I am taking you for a walk through the streets where I grew up—the Housing Commission estates of South-west Sydney. The message behind the record is to have fun.”
Fans can get an early taste of the EP with the recently released singles Preach and We Up, offering a glimpse into the record’s unapologetic and heartfelt storytelling.
Since releasing her 2020 debut single, For My Tittas, BARKAA has emerged as a leading voice in Australia’s hip-hop scene. She was recently awarded Artist of the Year at the 2024 National Indigenous Music Awards, having also received nominations for Film Clip of the Year and Song of the Year.
