Texas post-rockers Explosions in the Sky announce Australian tour

Following their critically acclaimed new album End and sold-out international tours last year, Explosions in the Sky have announced a string of Australian and New Zealand live dates and festival appearances in May.

The new tour dates mark the band’s first Australian appearance since their 2017 run, which saw them headline Chevron Gardens for “seventy plus minutes of cinematic grandeur” at Perth Festival 2017.

This time around, the Texas post-rock outfit will play at Perth’s Astor Theatre on Monday, May 27.

The show follows on from two performances of their landmark album The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place, in celebration of its 20th anniversary for Vivid Festival at Sydney Opera House, and an appearance among Spunk Records’ 25th finale line-up alongside Aldous Harding and The Middle East.

Over nearly 25 years, Explosions in the Sky have achieved remarkable critical and commercial success while making an especially non-commercial style of music—having sold nearly two million albums worldwide and scoring five major motion pictures to date. They’ve become the sound of modern sports films, documentaries and television series—due largely to their genre-defining Friday Night Lights score—and have found a diverse array of major artists as fans as well, having been invited to tour with Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Flaming Lips, Death Cab for Cutie and more.

Explosions in the Sky play Astor Theatre on Monday, May 27, 2024. Tickets are on sale Wednesday, March 27 from handsometours.com
