‘A Decade of Embracism and Beyond’ with Kirin J Callinan

This June marks the 10 year anniversary of Kirin J Callinan‘s Embracism, the album the New York Times described as “the most unpleasant listening experience in recent memory, including Yeezus.”

To mark the occasion, and the release of a new record, Kirin J Callinan has announced the If I Could Sing: A Decade of Embracism and Beyond national tour, with WA dates lined up at Mojos Bar on Friday, July 21, and Rosemount Hotel on Saturday, July 22.

Produced by The Presets’ Kim Moyes, Embracism announced the arrival of “the enfant terrible of Australia’s underground rock music scene,” spawning cult classics such as Landslide, Love Delay, WIIW, Victoria M, Halo and its title track. In the years since, Callinan has come to be known for his absurdly theatrical, confrontational and at times controversial live shows, and for garnering one of the most niche and devoted cult followings worldwide.

This June also marks the release of Kirin J Callinan’s fourth studio solo album; the humbly, cheekily, and arrogantly titled If I Could Sing.

Materialising from unreleased material, If I Could Sing promises to be Kirin’s most ambitious and assured opus since Bravado, or indeed Embracism. It has already yielded the ‘meth-pop-madness’ of Young Drunk Driver, the open-hearted balladry of …in Absolutes, and most recently the pumped-up fist-pumping anthem Anæmic Adonis.

Kirin will be performing previously never before played live songs from If I Could Sing, plus a swath of Embracism’s finest, as well a select cuts from Bravado, Return To Center and more.

Kirin J Callinan’s If I Could Sing: A Decade of Embracism and Beyond national tour hits Mojos Bar on Friday, July 21, and Rosemount Hotel on Saturday, July 22, 2023. Tickets are on sale now.
