PROPEL YOUTH ARTS Hip to be Square

New Sounds is a youth music series launched by Propel Youth Arts WA to spotlight Western Australia’s young musicians and DJs. The second edition of the family-friendly event, New Sounds – Volume Two; will showcase local music performances and fun activities at Yagan Square Amphitheatre this Sunday, November 20, from 2pm to 6pm.

The event gives people of all ages the chance to get amongst Stilt Walkers and floating Monster Bubbles, dress themselves with Sparkly faces and Glitter tattoos, and get crafty with a T-shirt designing workshop. Plus there are live music performances from Ullah Annert, Daisy Park, Happenings, and DJ Musu.

MUSU

Musu (fka LANI) is a Boorloo based DJ whose objective is to help create spaces that celebrate brown and bla(c)k queer folk and musical talent. She wields a variety of club sounds ranging from Dancehall and Afrobaile, to Jersey club, UK funky and Dembow to generate a playful dancefloor experience.

Daisy Park

DAISY PARK

2:30 PM – 3:10 PM music, live performances, indie rock, band

Daisy Park are a four-piece dreamy indie rock band, that are inspired by the likes of Spacey Jane and Gang of Youths. They jumped onto the Perth scene playing some of Perth’s most well-known venues such as The Indian Ocean Hotel. Their songs are a mixture of emotionally inquisitive and relatable lyrics, high energy guitars, smashing drums, and pumping baselines. A sound that is sure to put a smile on your face and have you grooving out.

Ullah Annert

ULLAH ANNERT

3:40 PM – 4:20 PM music, live performances, singer-songwriter, indie folk

Ullah is an indie-folk, singer songwriter who writes about the ordinary lovely (and not so lovely) things that are encountered each and every day. Her inspiration coming from the seemingly mundane aspects of life that she finds beauty. From an old man’s existential crisis to the infatuation of a simple stranger, her songs are created. With her band, each song is written with the intention to create a story in the audience’s mind.

Happenings

HAPPENINGS

4:50 PM – 5:30 PM band, live performances

Formed in early 2022, Happenings are a five-piece collective of music-makers based in Walyalup, WA. The band have created their own unique approach into the world of alternative folk-pop and art rock, executing this exploration via song and performance. Leading the project as the songwriter and caretaker of Happenings, Georgia Siciliano has taken a reflective and honest approach to their writing, delving into themes of self-identity, love stuff and general ponderings of time and place. The band released their debut single Now is the Right Time in early October.

New Sounds – Volume Two is the second of a four-part youth music series from Propel Youth Arts WA; Taking place across Kambarang (Oct – Nov) and Birak (Dec – Jan), amplifying the freshest talents in WA’s music community.

New Sounds Volume Three will be held on Friday, December 9, with more details to be released soon.
