THE SONGBOOK SESSIONS WAAPA rising stars’ night to shine

WAAPA
students will take to the stage for their annual contemporary music artist showcase The Songbook Sessions on Thursday, October 4 and Friday, October 5. Get down to ECU Mt Lawley‘s very own Spiegeltent, The Edith, to catch some of Western Australia’s next wave of emerging talent present their original works along with some creative rearrangements of iconic songs from song masters of our modern times. The performances include solo, duo, trio and band pieces plus full vocal choir renditions.

Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, otherwise known as WAAPA has a long history of creating world-beating stars. Acting and Music Theatre graduates such as Hugh Jackman, Francis O’Connor, Jai Courtney, Jim Jeffries, Simon Gleeson and Lisa McCune have put WAAPA on the international map. However, WAAPA’s diverse music program continues to bubble away under the surface, consistently producing some serious talent from household names like Tim Minchin and Meg Mac to emerging talent such as 2017 WAM Song of The Year winner Sydnee Carter and current talk-of-the-town, Carla Geneve.

Also many of WA’s favourite bands include members who have studied Contemporary Music at WAAPA, such as Demon Days, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Wooly Mammoth, New Talk (fka Rag and Bone), Last Lions, Tired Lion and heaps more. Even the amazing Stella Donnelly spent some time here across the Jazz and Contemporary Music streams, honing her impressive skills.

This is a great opportunity to find out what the new crop of Western Australian musicians have waiting to unleash on us in the coming years.

WAAPA’s annual Contemporary Music Artist showcase, The Songbook Sessions, goes down Thursday, October 4 and Friday, October 5 at The Edith Spiegeltent at ECU Mt Lawley. Tickets are on sale now.
