JULIA JACKLIN adds Jess Ribeiro at Perth Festival Thursday

Julia Jacklin
was set to perform with American singer Julien Baker at Chevron Gardens this Thursday, February 21, but Baker had to unfortunately pull out citing “unforeseen personal matters”. Perth Festival has announced that the show will go on, with Melbourne singer-songwriter Jess Ribeiro (pictured above) a more than worthy replacement, fresh on the back of the release of her latest single Stranger. Check out the video below.

“Due to unforeseen personal matters that have arisen, Julien Baker will be cancelling the remainder of her February tour in Japan, New Zealand, and Australia,” Baker’s management said. “We extend our deepest apologies to those who have helped to arrange these shows or planned to attend and thank you for your understanding.”

Ribeiro is renowned for her blend of indie rock and intricate folk-noir and is inspired by artists as diverse as The Velvet Underground to Dusty Springfield. She has been compared to the likes of Karen Dalton and Cat Power. Ribeiro’s second, and most recent album Kill it Yourself, was recorded with former Bad Seed Mick Harvey and is a suite of hazy rock, landscape ambience and 60s psych. It was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize (AMP).

Jess Ribeiro joins Julia Jacklin at Chevron Gardens for Perth Festival on Thursday, February 21. Tickets on sale now.
