The Western Trend Festival (WTF) happens on Saturday, March 14, at Canefire Gardens in the Swan Valley. The Disappointed will be taking the stage.

The Western Trend Festival is a new start-up event for Perth live original music. Given the recent discussion re venues how important do you think this event could be?
It’s great to have a an outdoor event for local bands, sure. But it’s no replacement for venues – just in terms of pure volume of performance opportunities. I think the talk about venues is a little hyperbolic anyway. Our industry doesn’t exist in a bubble, opportunity reflects demand. There’s no point in cranking up a bunch of new venues, especially government subsidised venues, if there’s no increase in demand. Maybe this festival could be a step towards making local level music shows more.
Have you as a band had much in the way of outdoor/festival experiences?
We haven’t done anything outdoors as far as I can remember.
Describe the evolution of your band, how it was at the start and what it is and is becoming…
We just keep playing, getting better as we go. There’s really little else to it. We are waging an internal war between visceral rock and sparkly pop – rock is winning recently.
What’s your gameplan for the rest of the year?
Hitting the studio for EP #3 mid year. Maybe we’ll get it out before Christmas, we’ll see. These things tend to move pretty slow.
