Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap was the feel-good festival tune of 2009. Watching the Melbourne band play live around the release of their debut album Conditions, was bound to encourage ecstatic dancing.

As a result of the nostalgia attached to that album, I figured their third studio release Thick As Thieves would be a hard act to follow. In my opinion, I was right. The tracks that make up the album are certainly well produced and catchy but there was no track that could quite meet the standard of the ever-so-sentimental Love lost.

The first real stand-out song for me was Summers Almost Gone, I guess I’m a sucker for emotion and that groovy breakdown towards the end sealed the deal.

I feel Thick As Thieves is a grower and pangs of wistfulness are still scattered throughout the harmonious rock music.

There’s no doubt it’s an excellent album, although it can be hard to beat your first love.
