The Lord of the Rings – A Musical Tale to bring Middle-earth down under
The highly anticipated stage adaptation The Lord of the Rings – A Musical Tale is set to embark on a major Australian tour, bringing J.R.R. Tolkien‘s legendary trilogy down under in 2025. The tour kicks off in Sydney in January before hitting Perth’s Crown Theatre for shows beginning Wednesday, March 19, moving on to Melbourne in late April.
Producers have unveiled a star-studded Australian cast for the production, featuring some renowned musical theatre talent and actor-musicians. The main cast includes Laurence Boxhall as Gollum, Andrew Broadbent as Elrond, and Rarmian Newton as Frodo Baggins. Other key roles will be performed by Hannah Buckley as Pippin, Stefanie Caccamo as Arwen, Rohan Campbell as Boromir, and Terence Crawford as Gandalf. The ensemble is also completed by a company of thirty-two performers.
The musical adaptation first debuted at The Watermill Theatre in the UK before making its US premiere at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, to positive critical acclaim. The production promises to transport audiences to ‘Middle-earth’ in a theatrical celebration of community, courage, and camaraderie.
“It is thrilling to have this stellar group of Australian theatre talent soon heading into rehearsals,” said Kevin Wallace of Kevin Wallace Productions, part of the team behind the Australian tour. “From January 2025, Middle-earth comes to Australia!”
