Star-studded cast revealed for Perth season of Jesus Christ Superstar

Tickets for the Perth season of the award-winning production of Jesus Christ Superstar are set to go on sale this Friday, August 16. The rock musical, featuring the celebrated musical score by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, will open at the Crown Theatre on Thursday, February 13, 2025.

Australian star Robert Tripolino will reprise his role as Jesus from the UK production, with notable past performances including Marius in Les Misérables at the Sondheim Theatre and Omar in Aladdin’s Australian tour. He will be joined by Javon King as Judas and Mahalia Barnes as Mary. Other significant cast members include Elliot Baker as Caiaphas and John O’Hara as Annas, with additional ensemble members rounding out the production.

Producer John Frost expressed his excitement about the cast, highlighting the vocal and choreographic demands of the show. “It has been a huge challenge to cast the show. We’ve found a powerhouse cast for this rock opera who are going to blow the roof off Crown Theatre eight times a week," he said.

Robert Tripolino will play Jesus in the upcoming production.

Initially released as a concept album, the musical debuted on Broadway in 1971, immediately becoming a global sensation and captivating audiences with its rock score. The original Australian production premiered at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney in May 1972, drawing large crowds.

This latest version, helmed by director Timothy Sheader and choreographer Drew McOnie, originated at London’s Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. It has garnered critical acclaim, including the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival.
