SAFIA’s popularity has been on a steady rise since playing Groovin’ The Moo in 2012 and winning triple j’s Unearthed competition in 2013. Four years since their break into the music scene and the Canberra trio’s eagerly awaited debut album will be resonating in our hot little ears on the September 9. Self-produced Internal features the cool indie electro sounds that we’ve come to know and love.
Opening track Zion invites listeners into an other-worldly instrumental dance sphere where synths, didgeridoo and wind pipes play an integral role. Over You makes forgetting your ex that much easier with enticing beat laden electronic pop. Make them Wheels Roll is an instant indie pop banger. Embracing Me gives those chills that bittersweet yet feel good tunes often do, the sense of yearning makes me want to weep all over the discotheque.
SAFIA have live recorded the majority of the music on this album giving it an honest and edgey sound. Internal is the album to cut a rug to in those early mornings when the party’s not quite ready to wind down.
