RTRFM’s Spoonful of Blues celebrates 45 years with special anniversary concert
Beloved Perth blues show, Spoonful of Blues, is celebrating a major milestone in 2024, with its 45th anniversary on air with RTRFM. Since its launch in 1979, the show has been the go-to spot for blues lovers, filling Monday nights from 7pm to 9pm with soulful tunes.
To mark the achievement, RTRFM is hosting a special anniversary party at Clancy’s Fish Pub in Fremantle on Sunday, October 13.
The event invites the local blues community to an evening of live performances featuring Biscuit & Slim‘s rich harmonies, singer Dan Howls’ gritty vocals and the guitar prowess of the Kerry B Ryan Blues Experience (pictured). Additionally, Diamond Daves will perform from the deep roots of Delta blues, and Lee Sappho will show why he is a local legend of the genre.
Alongside the live sets, Spoonful of Blues DJs will keep the blues vibes flowing on the verandah throughout the night, with Rhymin’ Simon, Dave McEwan, Purple Pete Greenwood and Tamara Szep spinning blues classics and deep cuts.
Spoonful of Blues, started 40 years ago by local blues musician Steve Tallis, showcases a wide range of blues styles on RTRFM every Monday night. From swampy New Orleans sounds to classic Delta and Memphis blues, the show also highlights fusions with country, soul, and gospel, as well as modern, psychedelic electric blues.
All proceeds from ticket sales go directly toward keeping RTRFM on the air and supporting local independent music and arts.
RTFM’s 45 Years of Spoonful of Blues party will hit Clancy’s Fish Pub in Fremantle on Sunday, October 13, 2024. For more info and to buy tickets, head to rtrfm.com.au
