After nearly a decade since their last album release, The Getaway Plan stopped by Perth to play the last show of their highly anticipated national headline tour. The tour was significant for the band and their fanbase as they unveiled new songs for the first time in almost a decade.
Perth four-piece Late 90s got the night underway with a high-energy 45-minute set. Highlights included Respawn (a song dedicated to Minecraft), Indigo Blaze, Don’t Blink, and their latest release, Metamorphasis.
Between songs, the band spoke about their full circle moment in supporting The Getaway Plan. Given they had covered The Getaway Plan’s song When the City Meets the Sea the last time they played at the venue, they were genuinely excited to share the stage with them this time around.
Late 90s
After a 30-minute break, The Getaway Plan hit the stage. The energy from the crowd was electrifying from the beginning, with dancing, moshing, and singing by all punters packed into the sold-out Amplifier Bar.
While they tested new material throughout the show, The Getaway Plan ensured they played hits from their debut album Other Voices, Other Rooms, sophomore album Requiem, and their latest album Dark Horses. New songs included Nothing Seems to Change, Praise the Sun, and Wake Up, which saw the drummer hitting so hard he broke his drumsticks towards the end of the song.
The Getaway Plan played a succinct, tight show with amazing guitar solos and epic back-up vocals. In particular, drummer Dan Maio blew the audience away in one of the best performances on the skins that you're ever likely to see live.
The Getaway Plan
Before ending the show, The Getaway Plan thanked the audience for coming and spoke about their appreciation that crowds have supported them over 20 years of playing music. They then launched into their most iconic song, When the City Meets the Sea, which saw the whole crowd singing and moshing in unison.
Upon leaving the show, some of the punters were going up to The Getaway Plan to congratulate them on an amazing gig, and it was great to see a band be so humble with their fans and interact with them.
The Getaway Plan delivered an incredible live performance at Amplifier. Their set not only evoked the nostalgia of teenage years when their debut album was released but also showcased the band's evolution in sound over the years since.
