In the tradition of Billy Elliot and The Full Monty, Pride tackles some of the most enduring British issues with a healthy dose of humour: Thatcherism, the village green, and jolly good garden variety heteronormativity. It’s based on the real experiences of a Welsh mining community ravaged by the 1984 miners’ strike, and their unlikely alliance with queer activists who raised money to support them. Featuring old-guard actors Bill Nighy and Imelda Staunton, Pride‘s got enough feel-good vibes, respect for history, culture-clash comedy and plaid for a thousand Kinky Boots and Made In Dagenhams.
