Pretty Uglys launch explosive new single Supernova at The Rosie

Local four-piece Pretty Uglys are hitting Rosemount Hotel this Friday, August 30, as they celebrate the release of their new single, Supernova. The track, which dropped on Thursday, August 15, is their second in 2024 so far and gives fans another taste of their upcoming debut album. Joining Pretty Uglys on the night will be their good friends The Deenys, Paint, and Lazy Haze, promising a night of electrifying music and good vibes, with tickets on sale now. ELLIS WAKELAM caught up with Pretty Uglys to find out what we can expect from the launch show and their debut record.

Congratulations on the release of your new single, Supernova. How long has it been in the works, and what originally inspired this song?

I did the first demo of Supernova in November 2023, which was just guitar and vocals. Between then and recording the song six months ago, we brought it together as Pretty Uglys, with everyone helping put the finishing touches on it and writing their parts. Supernova is a show ride, which is where the name comes from. The song is written around the subject of when life feels overwhelming.

It’s the second single you have released from your upcoming debut album. Do these songs reflect what we can expect from the rest of the record?

Absolutely, but there is still plenty of variety on the album.

Your last EP, Party Friends, was released in 2021. How did the process of creating your new album compare to making your earlier EPs and singles?

The new songs have been written with everyone having much more input as well as us just being a bit older and more mature with our tastes and topics, I guess.

Were there any new or surprising influences or inspirations that helped to shape the sound of the new album?

It has come together fairly naturally, so I wouldn’t say so.

And how about the band as a whole? Coming from the south-west, do you think your environment and that community influenced your sound?

It just meant we were more disconnected from the scene in the beginning, so we were probably less likely to be influenced by any other local bands as much as we would have been.

What can we look forward to at your upcoming launch at Rosemount Hotel on Friday, August 30? Who else is playing on the night, and what made them a great fit for the occasion?

We have The Deenys, Paint and Lazy Haze. All incredible bands with such fun live sets, so worth checking out!

And do you have any special plans for when your album comes out? Can fans look forward to another live launch or even a tour?

We will definitely line the release up with a tour!
