Perth theatre group Company O turn up the heat with ‘Venus in Fur’

Local theatre company, Company O, are bringing David Ives‘ play Venus in Fur to Fridays Studio from Thursday, November 16 to Sunday, November 19.

Venus in Fur tells the story of Thomas Novachek, a director/playwright, who has suffered through a long day of abysmal auditions for his adaptation of the German sadomasochistic novel Venus in Furs, until Vanda, a crass and pushy actress, stumbles into his audition room and convinces him to let her read for the role. With Thomas playing the masochistic male lead, the role play becomes intense and erotic as the line between reality and pretend become blurred and the question of “who’s on top” always has a different answer.

Founded in 2012, Company O is an independent theatre group based in Perth founded by a group of local actors to reinterpret and perform classic theatre pieces. Their previous shows include Stuck, Diary of a Madman, and Jean-Paul Sartre’s No Exit.

Fridays Studio is a New York style warehouse Photographic Studio located on Old Aberdeen Place in West Perth. Recently renovated, the space has been designed as a canvas for creativity, including white textured walls, polished concrete floors and large sections of exposed brickwork.

Venus in Fur is showing at Fridays Studio from Thursday, November 16 and until Sunday, November 19, 2023. Tickets are on sale now from www.trybooking.com
