Perth post-punks Last Quokka to kick up the dust with run of ‘Red Dirt’ album launch dates

Local post-punks Last Quokka have a big month ahead of them as they gear up for the launch of their new album Red Dirt on Friday, May 5.

On the week of the album’s release, Last Quokka will head east for a run of Melbourne dates at The Old Bar on Friday, May 5; Cherry Bar on Saturday, May 6; and a free entry show at Mamma Chens on Sunday, May 7.

Last Quokka will then return for a hometown launch party at The Buffalo Club in Fremantle on Friday, May 19. The two stage extravaganza will feature support from Mood Punch, Ruby Pettit, Grub and East Mountain Barron, kicking off at 8pm.

Last Quokka’s latest album Red Dirt features ten blistering tracks of politico punk rock reflecting on country, politics and nature. Describing Australia as a place that is “simultaneously full of beauty and wonder but also poisoned by corruption, racism and greed,” the record is packed with powerful bursts of punk rock energy and heavy rhythms complementing the piss-taking and acerbic words of frontman Trent Rojahn.

Sonically Red Dirt demonstrates an evolution for the band, with a ‘bigger’ and ‘bolder’ sound than previous releases. The recent addition of a second guitarist Justin Zanetic adds an explosive energy, accentuating the big riffs of Kirill Ivoutin, while drummer Carlota Rivera and bassist Raymond Grenfell propel the music forward in dynamic power.

Red Dirt will be available on Friday, May 5 via Stock Records, Tuff Cuff Records and Mass Prod (EU), as well as online via all the usual streaming services.

Earlier this month the band shared a taste of their new music with the single Disconnected. Check it out below.

Last Quokka’s new record Red Dirt is out Friday, May 5, 2023. Following a run of Melbourne dates, Last Quokka will launch the album at The Buffalo Club on Friday, May 19. For more info head to the Facebook event page.
