Metallica confirm Perth date on M72 World Tour
Metal legends Metallica have confirmed they will bring their M72 World Tour to Perth next year.
The Bay Area icons will kick off the Australia and New Zealand leg of their tour at Optus Stadium on Saturday, November 1 before heading east for shows in Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Auckland.
It will be Metallica’s first Perth show since they headlined Soundwave Festival in 2013.
Metallica’s North American tour partners, Suicidal Tendencies, and Grammy award-winning alt-rockers Evanescence will join them for the full run of dates down under.
Speculation about a Perth show started after the band announced an extension to their M72 World Tour last month. “This year we will return to Australia and New Zealand after far too long away,” it read, and told fans to “stay tuned for the full announcement.”
Metallica were last scheduled to visit Australia and New Zealand in 2019, but the tour was postponed when lead singer James Hetfield entered rehab. The tour was later cancelled due to the COVID pandemic.
While Australian fans will not get the full “no repeat weekend” double dose of live shows the band had been touring across America, we’re told these dates will feature Metallica performing at the end of each stadium and will include the infamous ‘Snake Pit’ extending from the front of the stage.
There will also be a full complement of Enhanced Experiences available, ranging from access to a meet and greet, production and stage tour, food and beverage in the ‘Black Box’ lounge, early entry into the venue and more.
The very popular “I Disappear Ticket” will also be available, which enables fans to attend all six shows in Australia and New Zealand, and travel packages including tickets and hotels will be available in four of the six cities.
Formed in 1981, Metallica are one of the most successful metal bands of all time. The four-piece have sold more than 120 million albums worldwide, accrued over 15 billion streams, won nine Grammys, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.
Last year, the band released their 11th studio album, 72 Seasons, which debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA Chart.
The touring line-up features founding members James Hetfield (vocals, guitar) and Lars Ulrich (drums), plus longtime lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and bass player Robert Trujillo, who joined the band in 2003.
