Kayps shares first taste of upcoming album BUNUBA BABY
Indigenous Walmatjarri and Bunuba hip-hop artist and producer Kayps has just released 765, the lead single from his highly-anticipated new album, BUNUBA BABY, which will be released Friday, August 14, via Bad Apples Music through Universal Music Australia.
The new single was co-produced and mixed by Calvin Bennett and serves as the first taste of the album, highlighting the 20-year-old’s ability to blend infectious, melodic hooks with blistering, intricate rap flows.
“765 is the first single off my forthcoming album BUNUBA BABY, which is a project to showcase a personal side of me,” said the Broome-born, now Perth-based artist. “Speaking more about my relationship with culture, facing the confusion, anger and frustrations of being mixed race and coming to terms with the fact that it’s ultimately ok.”
Kayps will bring the new material to the stage with a live performance at the Mirrabooka NAIDOC Event at Stirling Leisure on Thursday, July 9. The special event will also feature performances from Aboriginal artists Pipeline, Boox Kid, Lilly Gogos, MONGEEYA, Tameerah and Corroboree for Life.
The new record adds to Kayps’ growing list of achievements to date. In 2021, he was awarded the triple j Indigenous Initiative and was named a Top 5 finalist in triple j Unearthed High for both 2021 and 2022. He was selected as the Western Australian representative for the Mushroom Creative x Coles First Nations Pathway Program in 2023 and crowned as Good Intent’s Greater Good 2025 winner before being signed by Briggs’ own Bad Apples Music.
Bringing his unique voice to global stages, Kayps showcased internationally at SXSW Sydney and SXSW Austin, Texas, while also scoring coveted support slots for international heavyweights Denzel Curry and Kneecap.
Kayps’ new album BUNUBA BABY arrives Friday, August 14, 2026. Kayps plays the Mirrabooka NAIDOC Event at Stirling Leisure on Thursday, July 9, 2026. For more info, head to stirling.wa.gov.au
