JOONDALUP FESTIVAL 2022 Experience something new

The City of Joondalup has announced popular arts, culture and community event, the Joondalup Festival, is back in 2022 with an exciting three-week program.

Kicking off on Friday, March 11 and running until Saturday, April 2, the Festival will bring together some of the best talent Western Australia has to offer, to connect, inspire and entertain audiences.

The theme in 2022 is “Experience Something New” and features a revamped format with performances by the West Australian Ballet, Fremantle Theatre Company, and highly-acclaimed national studio ENESS, as well as more than 30 activations.

The Festival consists of a series of free and ticketed events across several locations in the City, including Hillarys Boat Harbour, Neil Hawkins Park (Joondalup) and Penistone Park (Greenwood), with performances under the stars, community art installations, music, movies and more.

ENESS I Believe Swings

Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob said this year’s Festival was the biggest ever seen in the City and heralded an exciting new era for the event. “Like so many in our local and wider community, we were very disappointed that COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the Joondalup Festival in 2020 and 2021, but we are rapt to be bringing this much-loved event back this year and can’t wait to put on a great show,” he said.

“The Festival has something for all ages, from live music to community art installations, outside cinema to cabaret and stand-up comedy. Attendees can expect to see incredible performances that showcase the very best of arts and culture within our region.”

“Despite many challenges in the lead up to the Festival, we are excited to bring a COVID-safe event and a new revamped format. I encourage everyone to come to the City of Joondalup and experience something new.”

Lost Dogs Disco

Internationally-renowned West Australian Ballet is set to headline Neil Hawkins Park with two unforgettable performances of classical and contemporary ballet under the stars on Friday, March 18 and Saturday, March 19.

West Australian Ballet Artistic Director Aurélien Scannella said it was an honour to partner with the City of Joondalup and showcase a scintillating mix of world-class dance works in a Gala performance at the Festival.

“We’re honoured to headline the Joondalup Festival 2022, joining an incredible line-up of Western Australian artists and performers,” Mr Scannella said. “Our Gala performance will show you the best bits of our State Ballet Company. It’s a veritable tasting plate of incredible classical, neoclassical, and contemporary ballet, and to a live audience under the stars. It doesn’t get much better than that.”

Other attractions this year include A Gala Evening with the West Australian Ballet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Joondalup Festival Hub, Grease Experience, I Believe Swings, Lost Dogs Disco and more.
