Jodi Palasin makes a splash with Making Waves Fringe World exhibition

Rocky Bay is set to present a new exhibition displaying original works by WA artists living with disability this Fringe World, with Making Waves hitting the lobby of Central Park Perth from Tuesday, January 27, to Friday, February 6.

The exhibition, aiming to challenge perceptions about disability, expression and who gets to be seen in the arts, will feature work from artist Jodi Palasin, with her piece Jelly set to be on display. As Jodi is blind, over the past fifteen years she has created pieces that come alive through texture, sound, and tactile exploration.

Working closely with Rocky Bay support staff at the Joondalup hub on her piece, Jodi carefully crafted each tentacle in Jelly, using materials that could not only be felt but also heard, adding another sensory dimension to the piece.

“I really enjoyed making Jelly because of all the different feels of the material and the sounds I created with it,” said Jodi.

This is Jodi’s second time sharing her art through an organised exhibit, but her first involvement with Fringe World.

“For the artists, Making Waves is about their artistic skills and abilities being showcased in a world-renowned festival,” said Rocky Bay Area Manager Lynsey Monk.

“The process of creating their pieces promotes inclusion and builds community connections—creating friendships over their shared love of art. The artists enjoy the diversity and meaningfulness of the creative process and the ability to use storytelling through the pieces they create.”

Now in its fourth year as a Fringe presenter, Rocky Bay continues to create platforms for artists with disabilities to share their work with mainstream audiences and to be recognised for their talent, not their disability.

Making Waves exhibition will take place at the lobby of Central Park Perth from Tuesday, January 27, to Friday, February 6, 2026. For more information, visit fringeworld.com.au
