Local noise punk trio Injured Ninja are bringing The Epic of Gilgamesh to the Goldfields. The free community event goes down at the Old Coolgardie Train Station, on Saturday, May 14.
The Epic of Gilgamesh is a Mad Max meets Mesopotamian rock opera last performed at The Rechabite for Perth Festival 2021. Collaborating with Drew Goddard (Karnivool) as part of the Barefoot Bands project, Gilgamesh is an expansion of Injured Ninja’s noise-rock jams expanded into a cacophonic orchestra with massive drums, immersive percussion and guest stars including Perth hip-hop MC Mathas.
Unravelling this ancient literary tale with a live drum orchestra, Gilgamesh will be filmed and recorded for a special album release later in 2022.
This week Injured Ninja have made a call out for drummers to join them for the event. “Do you want to be part of The Epic?” they asked on their Facebook page. “Gilgamesh is a massive drumming orchestra and we welcome anyone to join the band. If you live in the Goldfields or can make it out for May 14th you can rehearse with us and perform with us on the night,” they said. “Bring a drum and be in Coolgardie on the 14th for a rehearsal and workshop and then join us that night.”
