Immerse yourself in Noongar Boodjar with ‘groundbreaking cultural event’ KAYA at Yagan Square

Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Noongar Boodjar with KAYA—a groundbreaking cultural event at Yagan Square over the three Sunday nights of March 24, April 28 and May 19.

Created and presented by Phil Walleystack, this unique celebration will captivate audiences of all ages with a journey of sound, vision, and movement.

KAYA captures the spirit of Noongar storytelling, weaving together traditional and contemporary elements enriched by the sounds of didgeridoo loops, evocative chants, aerial footage, and stunning projections over 75 minutes.

Phil Walleystack, renowned for his masterful storytelling through music, will lead the spectacle with a compelling performance that merges history and modernity.

Joining Walleystack will be the ancestral rhythms of Aliwah Dancers and dynamic illuminated artwork by Noongar and Yamitji artist Justin Martin about “the connection of Noongar to Country.”

KAYA invites the audience to connect with the eternal sounds and landscape of Noongar Boodjar,” said Phil Walleystack. “We will bring ancient footsteps to life here in Goologoolup (Yagan Square) with a blend of sound, dance, and projection. KAYA stands as a beacon of creativity for our culture. We will share the allure and magic of our storytelling that has resonated through the ages.”

Admission to KAYA is free, but registration is required to secure a seat. Reserve your spot online through Humanitix.

A variety of native ingredient-inspired culinary delights are available from vendors at Yagan Square including The Shoe, Gangnam Korean BBQ, Hiss and Smoke Japanese, Street Eats Eatery, and exciting new dining options within the Stories re-development coming soon.
