girl in red announces Australian album tour

After selling out her run of headline dates last year, Norwegian alt-pop artist and songwriter girl in red is heading back down under and is set to play some of her biggest shows yet this July.

With her latest album, I’M DOING IT AGAIN BABY! in tow, girl in red’s Asia/Oceania Tour kicks off at Centenary at Claremont Showgrounds on Thursday, July 11, before heading east for shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Auckland.

Since the release of girl in red’s debut single i wanna be your girlfriend, Marie Ulven has been at the forefront of alt-pop with biting songs about navigating the world as a young queer woman.

Earlier this month, girl in red released her sophomore album I’M DOING IT AGAIN BABY!, marking her debut with Columbia Records. The Oslo-based Ulven maintains her intimate songwriting while also broadening her sonic horizons.

Ulven’s successes so far have taken her a long way from the bedroom where she made her earliest records. She’s played popular festivals such as Oya and Glastonbury and toured with pop icons like Conan Gray, Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift on the North American leg of her record-breaking Eras Tour. Along with multiple songs hitting nine-figure streams and winning prestigious awards such as BBC’s Sound of 2021 and the 2022 Telenor Culture Prize, girl in red has well and truly taken the world by storm.

With I’M DOING IT AGAIN BABY! Ulven is ready to harness the experiences she’s had and build girl in red into something “more ambitious, and more exciting, and more idea-driven,” as she puts it. “The past five years have been so insane, and that I’ve been given this opportunity is insane,” Ulven says. “But I think what’s really hitting me now is that I need to pursue music fully, and that’s something I want to do with this record. I just want to go all in on girl in red in 2024. I’m at a point where I’m willing to fly.”

girl in red plays Centenary at Claremont Showgrounds on Thursday, July 11, 2024. Tickets are on sale Monday, April 29 from secretsounds.com
